This series of songs derives from material I recorded in Tamil Nadu while I was there with Irit Batsry collecting material for These are not my Images. Each is based round a song or songs, two sung by adult males, the others by children in a village. The children had never seen a white person before, let alone one with a mike and DAT recorder, so were rather shy to begin with, but once I had shown them how the equipment worked, they happily recorded each other singing while Irit and I sat back drinking coconut milk.
